▷ Belle’s Headcanon
Name: Belle Rosine Proulx ~ Age: 19 ~ Birthday: November 28, 1756 ~ Height: 5’5” ~ Weight: 137 ~ Relationship Status: Engaged
Skills: Reading proficiently, horseback riding, and swimming.
Personality: Kind, knowing what to say and when, caring, bold, sweet, curious, knowledgeable, sensitive, timid, stubborn, loving, and self-sacrificing.
Background: Belle was born to her parents Maurice and Michelle as an only child, in Montpellier, France, near the Mediterranean Sea. Her father was an inventor (not wealthy, but he got by well), investing his money solely in that field. He sold mechanical toys and other inventions/machinery to merchants that would export them to other countries, or distribute them to larger cities. Inventing being a new in the 18th century, he only made 266 livres, 13 sols, and 4 deniers annually (equal to 400 pounds).
One night, Belle’s home caught fire. The fire destroyed everything Belle, Maurice and her mother, Michelle owned. It left them with only the clothes on their backs, a trunk full of books belonging to Michelle and a few other items. Maurice had to release his three servants and sell most of his livestock. Belle and her parents moved far from the sea to a town named Colmar near the French/German border. Belle was six years old at the time.
Living in Colmar was very different from Montpellier. It was very provincial in Belle’s opinion. Her father often said that he would do his best to start a “real life” for himself, Michelle and his young daughter. Belle’s mother fell ill from a disease in the meat that was being sold by the local butcher (which he purchased from livestock farmers); a disease named anthrax. Michelle died after four days of consumption, leaving Belle and Maurice heartbroken. From then on, each day was repetitive and like the one before in the poor, provincial town of Colmar.
Canon: The Disney movie.
Post-Canon: After the transformation and the celebration ball that followed, Belle decided to go back to the village with her father for the time being. While Adam is getting back into the loop after “gone missing” for 10 years, Belle is waiting patiently for him. Belle feels uncomfortable back home. The village people are the same us usual, even since they raided the castle. Yet, Belle feels…independent and ready to make her own decisions and be content with what she has and be thankful for what she’s given.
Fears: Not a full-fledged fear, but Belle gets skittish during thunderstorms and is fearful of wolves.
Appearance: Slim, mid-length brunette hair, slender hands, perfect fingernails, full lips, doe-like eyes, small feet.
Changes to background/pre-canon: I used some of the outlines and/or plot(s) from the original tale of “Beauty and the Beast” in its second adaptation by Beaumont. Please read the original tale to better understand what changes I have made.
